First week of taper down. Two more to go. Today’s long run was great! Felt strong throughout which took me by surprise. It certainly boosted my confidence. Still not rushing the pace, just enjoy the run and focused on breathing, form and hydration. Although the mornings are bit cooler now, it gets hot pretty quickly when the sun gets higher. Managed to survive on 1 stick of GU Chews. They worked great! I can feel the caffeine giving me an extra kick - I was more alert. Made sure I ate proper though 2 days prior, so I don’t have to rely on the chews too much. Maybe I need them more on race day. We’ll see! Happy Monday and happy running!

I started running in 2008 heading into my senior year of college. I would run outside for 1-2 miles, or run for 20-30 minutes on the treadmill at the gym. I had no idea what I was doing, but I knew that it felt good and I liked it. So I kept doing it. I followed no plan, had no goals, no knowledge, and no real running community. I just ran.

In 2012, I ran my first ever race: a Warrior Dash (muddy post-race photo above). I. FELL. IN. LOVE. I'd never experienced such an exhilarating thrill like that before and I wanted more. I ran my first 5k a couple months later in Boston. I can definitively say that since then, running is almost all I think about.

I have run more races, more miles, met more people, injured myself, healed myself, and learned more in the past 10 years than I ever thought possible.

In October of last year, I decided it was finally time to do something I had been thinking about for as LONG as I can remember, even well before I actually started running.

I have now been training for 14 weeks, but in reality and as weird as it sounds, I feel like I've been getting ready for this my whole life. Everything I've ever done, whether intentional or not, has led me to this point.

So I thought that maybe, just maybe, if I ran every day, I might lose my baby cheeks. Looks like it's not gonna happen LOL!! 👶 And honestly I don't care too much anyway-- I'm in good shape, I take care of myself (most of the time), and I'll say it's just my trademark. ™️.

Hill workout in the neighborhood!! New hill with more jogging in-between reps so I just did it 6x. 1 mile warm up and cool down for a total of 4 rainy miles.

Creating the Ironcrew team was something I selfishly wanted to do because I wanted to be part of a positive and empowering community while navigating this crazy journey of mine as a mother of two training for sport.  So what originally started as my launch of running/cycling/triathlon training plans soon turned into a mission to encourage and recruit more and more women to get active and fit 💪. I love seeing women across all athletic backgrounds and levels join this crew - we are 100% inclusive.

Next up is my virtual client Heini from all the way over in Portland, US.

Heini came to me back in December following an injury and feeling a little lost with her running and looking to inject some energy and new ideas into her training. 
We spent a while going over her goals and a 6 month progressive plan was set to break the 22 minute 5 km barrier. 
Only just out of her first 6 week ‘base training phase’ and very much in the development stage of her plan (heavy legs are very much part of this process) this wonderful lady ran at the heartbreaker 5 km locally this morning coming in at a new PB of 21.54.

I had to smile afterwards when Heini text me saying ‘My legs felt heavy and I just had no other gear today - I tried to push but just couldn't pick up the pace.  No feeling of speed apart from a few short sections - at the finish line I didn't feel wiped out by the effort and felt fine pretty quickly, but couldn't get legs to move faster. Running form felt good throughout, the weather was great, experiencing a race after such a long break was great. Just felt slow today. But I'm thinking if 22 mins now feels slow - compared to 22 last summer when it felt fast - there are surely bigger things to come?!?’ A pheromonal start to the plan - one has to now wonder now what that actual 5 km target should be in June seeing as she’s already beaten her original goal. I already know my thoughts are and I suspect Heini knows what I will suggest next... As we head into the ‘Race specific’ phase of the plan I can’t wait to see what this committed and determine lady really has in her 🔥🏃‍♀️ #achievetheunthinkable

Ran the Galveston marathon - half marathon today. I really needed to push to get out there. The weather conditions were less than ideal, it was humid AF but I finished in 2:47:47. I still am making progress which is all I can hope for in life. I think it’s pretty cool that I live in a forest but only 30 minutes away from a beach. #momworksitout •
