A storm is a-comin’! Here are some clips I shot the other day when a cool snow storm came overnight in the Catalina’s! Excited to see what happens here in the desert over the next few days! Music by @m83music
Catalina’s ⠀ ⠀ I caught some nice light shining on the Catalina’s this morning after a little snowstorm passed through overnight. After driving around for 2 hours this morning not getting the shot I was anticipating, this one will do :). Read below for the challenges! ⠀ EXIF - Single Exposure ⠀ Camera: Canon 6D Lens: Canon 70-200 f/7.1 Shutter: 1/200 ISO: 100 Tripod: @vanguardworld ALTA Pro 2+ 264 carbon fiber Memory: @pnyusa 512gb Elite SD Card ⠀ Challenges: Actually taking a dang shot! I woke up this morning at 4 a.m after a terrible nights rest due to excitement. I was anticipating low level snow which made me rush to the mountains only to be turned away by a sheriff who beat me there by 1 minute (not joking, he pulled right up in front of me as I was getting to the stop sign from a different road 🤬.) So after driving around for 2 hours across town, I decided to head home and shoot it from the west side of town with downtown in the foreground from “A”

Finally found myself scrambling up / down Camelback Mountain via echo canyon today. I was super surprised how crazy the hike ended up being. I was under the impression it was pretty straight forward but nobody shows how much you have you scramble up boulders and hang on to railings and such. Pretty fun and wild. Anyways, I’m pretty excited to be staying at @mountainshadowsaz near the base of the mountain for a few days! #shotoniphone
My spring Milkyway Workshops are filling up! Only a few spots remain open for my Joshua Tree workshop March 8-10! Sonoran Sunsets ⠀ There have been some amazing sunsets these last couple of days in desert! Check out my story and live video to see how this shot came to life. I jotted down my challenges and notes to self for this shot at the bottom of this post. ⠀ How’s the weather where you are? Have you guys been seeing pictures of the crazy polar vortex? ⠀ EXIF - Single Exposure ⠀ Camera: Sony a7s2 Lens: Tamron 15-30 f/5.6 Shutter: 1/30 ISO: 400 Tripod: @vanguardworld ALTA Pro 2+ 264 carbon fiber Memory: @pnyusa 512gb Elite SD Card ⠀ Challenges: I was overwhelmed by the pure beauty of the sky in an area I’ve never been before, so I wasn’t sure what to shoot when the sky lit up. I thought I arrived in enough time to hike up the trail to the top of the mountain but I was wrong. I was also live on IG and shooting handheld at the same time which was a mistake. I wish I set up the tripod so I could shoot a tighter aperture to get everything in focus and at a lower ISO. ⠀ Notes

Total Lunar Eclipse seen from the Sonoran Desert last night! Here is a “timelapse” photo showing all the stages of the eclipse as it rose over the Tucson mountains. This photo was challenging to create and is not a composite. I set up my camera and took a timelapse of the eclipse, then took one long exposure for foreground, then stacked it all using exposure / layer blending in photoshop. I’m not great at photoshop stuff so it took me like 2 hours just to edit it making this image 8 hours of work 😂. I shot this with a side angle lens which is why the moon looks small. In reality the moon was a bit larger than a full moon but you couldn’t really tell with the naked eye. Anyways I hope you enjoy the image. Weather was pretty poor here on the west coast so my workshop client and I made the best of it. How was the view where you live? I’ll be answering any questions and responding to comments when I can. I’m just now getting to bed! PS I just launched my spring milkyway
Make sure to look up at the Total Lunar Eclipse Wolf Moon tonight! It’s the only total lunar eclipse for 2019! Crossing my fingers we get some open patches in the clouds here in Tucson! To find out the times and viewable locations of the eclipse, visit the link in my bio!
Still hard to believe we got 2 straight mornings of snow In the desert last week. Waking up to a blanket of white fluffy snow in the Sonoran desert was something out of a dream. Have you seen my new short film that I released on Monday where I captured this rare event? Link in bio.
Sonoran Snow ——————— Here is my latest 2-minute short film on the snow that fell in Tucson last week! This is a pretty rare occurrence (once every few years for only a few hours.) Make sure to swipe left to watch the 2nd half since Instagram limits posts to 1 minute! Also be sure to visit the blog for additional photos and behind the scene content! Link in bio.
